Fall is almost here, and while it might not feel like it outside just yet, now is the perfect time to start planning some home projects to do around your home.
From simple fall cleaning tasks to ensure that your home is ready to start running the fireplace again, this list has ten important home projects you want to add to your to-do list.
Have your fireplace and chimney inspected
Fireplaces can be a fire hazard if you’re not careful. Before you fire up your fireplace for the colder months, make sure you have it inspected to make sure your chimney is free of debris and that everything works properly.
Install a programmable thermostat
Just turning down your thermostat, five degrees can make a huge difference in your home! You can also use this to save money on heating costs during the warmer months.
Take a look at your roof
If you have any shingles that need replacing or any work done on your roof, now is the time to do it! Snow and leaves can add weight to your roof, and if not correctly cared for, could result in a hole smack dab in your ceiling!
Trim tree limbs
As your trees start to lose their leaves, you’ll be left with a bunch of empty tree limbs. This is a great time to take a look at any branches that might need to be removed from the trees.

Clean out your gutters
During the fall months, your gutters will be full of leaves and other debris from the wind. Take this time to clean out your gutters to allow proper drainage.
Store your warm-weather items
If you brought anything out to use during the summer months, such as blow-up pools or beach toys, use this time to store them until next year properly.
Seal your windows and doors
Cold air leaking through your windows and doors is going to end up making your heater work harder! Instead, seal your windows and doors with some weatherstripping to help prevent the heat from getting out and the cold air from getting in.
Prepare your yard for snow and bad weather
Snow can start as early as fall, so make sure you are using it to prepare your yard! You don’t want to have to dig through the snow to find things you’re looking for, or to worry about running into things when trying to clear a path from your door.
Change the direction of your ceiling fans
If you want to give your heating a little boost, change the direction of your fans! This will help move warm air through your home and keep your home warmer.
Organize your garage
Before it gets too cold, use this time to organize your garage! If you need to sell anything or move anything, now is the time!
You don’t need to do everything on this list, but these are ten things you should at least consider adding to your to-do list. Depending on the type of how you have, not all of these will work for you. If you can do all ten, you’ll be in a much better position during the colder months.
