VISITING THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH IN ST. AUGUSTINE

Sharing is caring!

We just got back from our week long family vacation and we’re exhausted but happy to have had the time to spend with family! I’m working a little backwards here, but on our way back home from Raleigh (recap coming soon) we stopped over night in the historic St. Augustine. The kids (and us) were pretty tired from our week of being off schedule but we still wanted to make sure to check out the historic Fountain of Youth!

VISITING THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH IN ST. AUGUSTINE

We got to our hotel around midnight, so after only a little bit of sleep and breakfast we headed out to the Fountain of Youth. I made one tragic, rookie mistake going into this trip. I forgot the baby carrier. *face palm* It was horribly hot that day and my little guy just wasn’t feeling it. Nonetheless, we made it through and checked out all the amazing sights at the Fountain of Youth.

The landscaping alone was breathtaking. There were also workers dressed in time appropriate clothing teaching you the history behind it all. My husband was probably the biggest history buff of us all, but Isabella seemed really interested in it too!

Every hour, on the hour, they shot off the cannon. We watched the blacksmith teach about all the things they used to make, like utensils and  cups, etc.

Gabriel’s favorite part was probably the old boat docked by the pier. I have to admit this was probably my favorite too. The view was beautiful and you could see the old lighthouse off in the distance.

We had planned on grabbing lunch at a well-known food truck and then continuing on to the pirate museum Isabella was excited about, however the kids fell asleep almost as soon as we hit the road! So we decided to call the trip and keep driving the couple hours home. My kids thrive on schedules and being away from home for a week really took a toll on them. As I write this, Isabella is fast asleep after watching TV which NEVER happens.

Next time we go, we’ll definitely plan on spending several days there in order to take full advantage of all the town has to offer! I hear the beaches are a must-see too!
