7 Vitamins and Supplements to aid in establishing healthy family habits.
Teaching my kids at a young age how to care and nurture for their bodies is so important to me. What they learn now will carry them into adulthood and hopefully allow them to lead healthy lives. Including the kids in the kitchen, creating supplement routines, and getting adequate exercise and physical activity are all steps we’ve taken in establishing healthy family habits. It’s common knowledge that children can be picky eaters so including vitamins and supplements into the routine is crucial for their overall healthy and well-being.
iHerb is my favorite place to grab all my skincare needs, but also a great source for family vitamins as well. We can reorder the entire family’s supplements in one spot which makes this busy mom quite pleased. They sell over 400 Nature’s Way products, shipping to over 160 countries while supporting 10 different languages. I also liked that they have an option to try a product & save money by selecting the sample size. PLUS (this is a big plus to me) free shipping over $20 which is definitely attainable.
Multi-Vitamins
The kids LOVE gummy vitamins and Nature’s Way Alive! multi-vitamins are one of their favorites coming in flavors of cherry, grape and orange. They contain 26 fruits and vegetables and are free of artificial flavors and preservatives. For my husband and I, we take Nature’s Way Alive! women’s energy and men’s max potency multi-vitamins. Working full time, chasing toddlers and maintaining a thriving blog can take a toll on my energy level. Consistently taking a multi-vitamin helps tremendously with my stamina leaving me with more energy to play with my kids.
Preventative Supplements
Multi-vitamins are great and should be taken by everyone, but there are also additional supplements that may be missing from our individual diets or certain ailments we each suffer from. For example, when I work out my hips, knees and overall legs ache like something crazy. I discovered that by taking a vitamin specifically for Bones it helped alleviate these pains and allow me to continue working out regularly. My husband is also an athlete and the Alive! Calcium/Bone Formula is a great supplement to take.
Probiotics are the one supplement I never knew I really needed. Sure it can be found in some foods like yogurt, but I’ve noticed a big change after taking it on a daily basis. Our whole family can take this Reuteri probiotic (over the age of 2) to support digestion and immunity. You only need to take it once a day and it can be mixed into cold drinks or foods like yogurt, cereal, or applesauce for the kids. This particular one does contain milk/soy so if you have little ones who are sensitive please consult your doctor.
COCONUT OIL! I think we all know by now that coconut oil can be used for anything from curing rashes to the perfect makeup remover. Taking 1 tablespoon of pure coconut oil (no fillers) can aid in weight loss and increase energy levels. Nature’s Way makes a really good one that is completely odorless and flavorless.
Combat Sickness
At the very first sign of a cold I immediately head to the medicine cabinet for three things: vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea. One of my friends turned me on to echinacea years ago and it significantly reduced my cold symptoms. Nature’s Way Echinacea Goldenseal is slightly different than the pill version I used to take. This has an easy to use dropper. Simply add 1 mL to a small amount of water and half the dose for children.
