Struggling with sweaty post workout hair? Just because you go to the gym doesn’t mean you need to wash your hair more frequently! These are my favorite tips to refresh your hair after the gym.
One of the biggest challenges woman seem to face is finding the time to get to the gym for a workout. So when I finally made the decision (and stuck with it) to get up at 5 am I didn’t want hair washing to become an excuse as to why I no longer had the time to go. Hair washes came 1-2 times a week and my goal was to stick to this schedule. Refreshing your hair after a killer workout is possible!
HOW TO REFRESH YOUR HAIR AFTER A WORKOUT
There are several ways to avoid limp, greasy hair after working out. Here are my best time-saving tips for getting you from the gym back to the office without wet hair.
Use Dry Shampoo.
It’s no secret that dry shampoo can soak up oils and grant you another wash-free day. The key here is to use dry shampoo BEFORE your workout. This way the product is working to combat oils, grease and sweat while you workout. Just give a quick spray on your roots, primarily in the areas you find yourself the most sweaty, like around the hairline. [Favorite Dry Shampoo, Inexpensive enough for frequent use and works great.]
Use Spiral Hair Ties.
I first heard of these spiral hair ties as a way to save curls while you sleep without getting dents in your hair. (Think high pony to avoid curl smashing.) I put them to the test during a variety of workouts from cardio to strength training. Surprisingly they surpassed my expectations leaving my hair dent free and secure. Use a Hair Dryer.
You’re bound to have a little moisture in your hair after a killer workout. Set your hair dryer on cool or low heat to dry up any dampness. Using a round brush on straight hair will also help add some volume back in after being in a ponytail. When my hair is curled, I’ll run a wide tooth brush or comb through it. If the ends start to frizz, add a SMALL amount of hair oil just to the very ends of your locks, twisting strands around your fingers as you work. This will help reset the curls.
What Not to Do
– Do NOT use dry shampoo on sweaty hair! Think about it…moisture and aerosol powder mixed together makes paste.
– Do NOT use a headband or sweat band if you want to revive your hair post-workout. If you do, kiss volume goodbye.
