The kids have been back to school for a few weeks now where we live. Being our first school year with our daughter we tried to prepare her as much as possible and developed a routine that allows her to maintain some independence while being simplistic for all of us. With 2 working parents and now one child that needs to be ready as well in the morning we are aiming for easier breakfast options for the back to school season.
Cheerios has been a long time favorite of mine ever since I was little and my kids love it too! Made from whole grains and rich in fiber and protein makes me happier than trying to feed my kids other sugary cereals out there. Plus it’s the most versatile cereal out there making it great for breakfast, snacks and even using for fun educational crafts. Some mornings we’ll be in a rush and will need breakfast on the go so I’ve come up with some really yummy homemade cereal bars and an amazing peanut butter protein granola that my kids love! All 5 easy breakfast options are listed below with super easy instructions!
1. Traditional Bowl of Cheerios paired with fruit
Self explanatory. Nothing beats a bowl of cereal with cold milk and sliced banana!
2. Cheerios Yogurt Parfait
If you know me, I can turn anything into a parfait. Fruit, crunch, and yogurt is my jam! Layer them up and serve as a delicious change to your breakfast or even as an after-school snack.
3. Cheerios Sushi
Sushi. Yum…only not in the traditional sense for my kids. This one is really fun for you and the kids to make together. Take a banana and roll it in peanut butter then coat with crushed Cheerios! Slice it up and if your kids can work some chopsticks, go for it! If not, fingers will do just fine.
4. Cheerios Very Berry Cereal Bars
These are sooo delicious and perfect for those on-the-go mornings.
Instructions:
Melt 4 tbsp butter and 1 bag of mini marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl or sauce pan. Once melted add to 5 cups of Very Berry Cheerios and 1.5 cups of freeze dried strawberries. Placed in a parchment paper lined 8×8 pan, chill and drizzle with melted vanilla baking chips.
5. Cheerios Peanut Butter & Honey Granola
Hands down my most favorite granola recipe made with Cheerios! It’s super easy to make and can be eaten as a cereal with milk, put into a yogurt parfait or eaten dry as a snack!
Instructions:
Melt 1/2 cup peanut butter and 1/2 cup of honey in a microwave safe bowl. Mix 3 cups old fashioned oats, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 2 cups of Cheerios in a separate bowl. Working quickly add the peanut butter mixture to the dry ingredients mixing well. Spread onto a cookie sheet and bake on 250° for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through. Granola will harden as it cools.
