School is out for the summer and while it’s super easy to get stuck in a TV and tablet rut, we’re proactively trying to avoid that and keep the kids busy with fun activities. There are some things to keep in mind before heading out on a hot summer day though.
Stay Hydrated
Temperatures are easily in the 90°’s here on a daily basis. Keeping the kids hydrated is super important. Each day we grab our favorite insulated cups and fill them with ice water. It’s very easy to become dehydrated in this heat so having fluids easily accessible for the kids is a good idea along with constantly reminding them to drink.
Sun Protection
It will only take minutes for little ones to get a sunburn, especially down south. Lather on a sunscreen with a 30 SPF 10-15 minutes before going outside and don’t forget a hat and sunglasses.
Natural Bug Repellent
Florida is well known for bugs and the ants and mosquitoes are plentiful. My kids have that sweet skin that they love so every time before we head out I spray on a natural bug repellent. You can also use essential oils and create your own kid and pet safe repellent.
Multivitamins
We all know kids can be picky eaters! Trying to get them to eat healthy foods and stay hydrated can be exhausting on a daily basis. We all do our best, but at the end of the day a multivitamin can really help keep little ones healthy.

Healthier Snacks
The best part about the warmer months is all the fresh produce. Opt for fresh fruits and keep a basket or bin accessible for the kids to grab whenever they want a snack (which is probably every hour during the summer).
