Thanks to the internet and Google saving on home decor has never been easier. Decorating our home has left me making decisions right and left. While I have been known for hunting down the best deal to save a buck, sometimes it may be worth it to splurge.
For example, we knew we wanted butcher block counter top on our kitchen island. An opportunity presented itself to use a recycled bowling lane and we needed to make the decision on whether to splurge on a conversation piece or save with basic butcher block. [You can check out our decision here.]
Area rugs are one of those home decor items with a wide range of prices. I just finished decorating our master bedroom complete with a beautiful 9′ x 12′ area rug. In my search I came across so many that were out of my budget (I’m talking thousands of dollars).
In an effort to share my experience and give you a point of reference, I’ve created an area rug shopping guide with two categories: splurge vs save. Anything over $300 for a 9′ x 12′ area rug was considered a splurge; anything under $300 was considered a save.

Area Rugs: Splurge vs Save
I’ve included some of the most popular design area rugs in a wide range of price points.
