Before you head out on those spring and summer road trips, you must perform these car care tips, especially after a brutal winter. Click to learn more about Jiffy Lube’s services. #NationalCarCareMonth
In less than a month my kids will be out of school for the summer. How time flies! We haven’t scheduled any major summer camps or activities, leaving us more time for spontaneous road trips and quick weekend getaways. Travel is not only great for creating lasting family memories, but also so good for your mental well-being after brutal winters of being stuck indoors. In addition to wreaking havoc on your mental health, the winter season can do a number on your car. I’ve partnered with Jiffy Lube for National Car Care Month to share some must-do car care tips to perform this spring.

Growing up I spent most of my summers with my grandmother, especially after she moved in with us. We’d visit her shore house and spend days at the beach. She usually took us on her errands and I remember always going with her for oil changes and general car maintenance at Jiffy Lube. When it came time for caring after my own car, having Jiffy Lube perform my services seemed like a no brainer.
BEFORE A ROAD TRIP, YOU MUST DO THESE CAR CARE TIPS
Before heading out to create your own family travel memories, be sure to perform these general car care tips. The winter season can be damaging to vehicles so it’s important to perform a thorough check.
We visited our local Jiffy Lube recently for their Signature Service Oil Change which also includes comprehensive preventative maintenance. Immediately upon arrival, I was greeted by a worker at my car to go over the services I wanted perform. He kindly went over the different packages offered (don’t forget to visit JiffyLube.com to check out their current coupons & offers!) and walked us into the waiting area. After a quick check (like literally super quick), we went over the type of oil recommended by the manufacturer (i.e. synthetic blend, synthetic oil, etc.), along with the current condition of my car’s filters and other fluids.
In 20 minutes my kids and I were back on the road! I’d highly recommend visiting your local Jiffy Lube for general routine maintenance!
The following tips will help your car shake their winter blues:
Schedule an oil change.
Obviously number one, right? Every car has different intervals in which you should get your oil changed. The type of oil plays a part in this as well. If you drive under “severe” conditions, which typically means more stop and go shorter trips, it’s recommended that you have your oil changed more frequently. When your engine has to work harder, the oil tends to degrade faster.
Give it a wash!
If you experience harsh snowy winters, you’re more likely to come in contact with the salt your town lays down. This salt can actually ruin your car’s color and corrode the metal. Get the kids outdoors in the warmer weather to help and you’ll have yourself a shiny clean car.

Check your filters.
Replacing dirty air filters can help your car run more smoothly and efficiently. If your air filter is clogged with dirt and debris, your engine will have to work harder. Be sure to have the cabin air filter checked too. This one is important for the air you breathe inside your car. Check your car’s owner’s manual for recommended replacement intervals. A Jiffy Lube specialist will check this out for you during scheduled maintenance.
Check your fluids.
Check your engine coolant and transmission fluid. Carefully! Make sure your car has cooled down after use before attempting to open the radiator cap. Fill the radiator as needed to the proper level. Metal particles can break free during normal wear and tear on bears and gears, so be sure to have transmission fluid checked and changed regularly.
Wiper Blades and Washer Fluid.
This is one we regularly forget until the spring rain hits and you’re stuck with wiper blades that don’t perform as they should and make an awful sound while they’re at it. Wiper blades typically last 6-12 months before needing replacement. If you see any tears or frayed edges, it’s time to replace them.
Belts and Hoses.
Belts and hoses should be checked for cracks and splits before heading out on the road. Give them a little twist to see all angles.
Taking proper care of your car leads to a longer vehicle life. Always schedule routine preventative maintenance and let the car care experts at Jiffy Lube get you out on the road safely.
