Background: I started blogging a little less than a year ago as a way to document my life, the kid’s milestones, and share photos with family and friends. Over the course of the year my following grew and opportunities arose to monetize my site. I have earned a little under $3,000 in the 5 months since I started monetizing. I should also note that I am currently working full time and blog on the side. You can read all the details on how to get started here.
This month started off a little slow in terms of securing sponsorships and earning income. Everyone seemed to be in a holiday funk and exhausted budgets in December. Besides I really just wanted to take a break after the whirlwind of Christmas and New Year’s. I also work full time as a Staff Accountant so I was dealing with month-end and year-end closing procedures. Blogging is a fun, creative outlet for me that just happens to earn a side income for my family.
I decided to back off from writing sponsored content for the month and just write what I wanted! I also changed up my BoardBooster tactics and increased my budget to allow Pinterest to start taking the lead in my referral source. That’s a large investment though that wasn’t quite in the budget for this month.
My reason for continuing to write blog income reports is not to brag, but to encourage those with smaller blogs to value themselves. Not only are you following a passion but you’re also providing a service and visibility to a brand. You don’t need hundreds of thousands of pageviews (although that would be nice!) to be an asset to a brand. You just need to believe in yourself and your ideas!
