How to make your own boho style wooden round wall decor for under $25!
While I was researching design ideas for our modern boho playroom, I came across this beautiful Wooden Round Fiber Art Wall Hanging. The style is both modern and bohemian and fit the shape theme of the other art prints hanging on that wall. However the price tag was FAR beyond my budget.
DIY Boho Wooden Round Fiber Art Wall Hanging
Materials Needed:
- 10-12″ round piece of wood
- DecoArt Suede paint
- Paint Brush
- Chunky Yarn
- Hot Glue
Instructions:
If you’re not starting with a pre-cut circle, you will need to use one of these circle-cutting techniques to cut out your form. I used a jig saw to cut out my circle.
Circle in hand, find your center and cut in half so that you have 2 half-moon pieces.
Sand your wooden pieces until smooth.
Take a paint brush and DecoArt Suede paint; using a cross-hatch movement paint the top and sides of your pieces.
Once they are dry, cut your strands of yarn. My strands are 17″ long, but they can be as long or as short as you’d like. Don’t worry about them all being exactly equal right now. You will trim the bottom at the very end.
Start hot gluing your yarn, 4-5 strands at a time, across the bottom of the front of your wood.
Take 3 strands of yarn the length of your wooden round and hot glue them horizontally over the top of your hanging pieces to clean up the edge.
Hanging your wall decor: You can use any method you’d like; picture hooks, can tab, or Command Strips. I used 2 large strips on each wooden round to hang on our playroom wall.
Once they’re hung how you like them, trim the bottom of the yarn to even out at your desired length.
This total project cost me $22 for the yarn and paint. (I used 3/4″ scrap plywood we had laying around in the garage.)
