Often times I joke that my four-year-old is as clumsy as I am and could trip over her own shadow. She’s really not that bad, but I have seen her fall for what appears to be no reason at all. Encouraging activities that build core strength and balance is essential for toddlers and little ones learning to walk. Recently we came across the brightly colored that the kids have enjoyed using for various activities indoors and outdoors.
promote balance and coordination and can be used in a variety of ways. When ours arrived (from Amazon, of course) we immediately took them outside. My kids love pretending there’s hot lava on the ground and hopping from stone to stone while trying to avoid scorching themselves. As they became used to jumping from stepping stone to stepping stone, I spread them out a little further to build even more confidence and to have them learn how to judge distance and height.
There are so many games you can play with these stepping stones:
- Mother May I
- Obstacle course
- Soccer practice – dribbling
- Color Recognition – “Hop from yellow to red…”
- Hot Lava
Each set comes with three different sizes and two of each color. You can even bring them inside to help curb rainy day boredom.
Toddlers are constantly moving and learning cause and effect. Harness their imagination and develop their balance and core in fun ways. Children with better balance and coordination perform better in sports and can lead to higher confidence levels. These stepping stones can be used in a variety of ways. As your younger children start out, you may want to hold their hand until they become more confident in their abilities. Before you know it, they’ll be jumping high in the sky off the last stone.
