Gift Guide for Beginner DIY
Buying our own home has allowed us to take on so many amazing DIY projects. I wasn’t raised building or crafting, but over this past year I’ve become more comfortable with a tool in my hand.
Problem: One of the biggest challenges most people face when they see a project I’ve done and want to replicate it is they don’t have the right tools.
Solution: I’m rounding up my most frequently used tools for DIY projects, painting, crafting, etc. that are beginner friendly.
Painting Supplies
Spray Shelter // one of my favorites for paint spraying projects. This shelter is rather large and will save your driveway and cars from overspray.
Paint Sprayer // I’ve used this paint sprayer for so many projects, including our bedroom accent wall, mudroom cubby, fireplace stone makeover, outdoor playhouse makeover.
Paint Brushes // I’ve tried SEVERAL different paint brushes and these are by far my favorite and most comfortable to use.
Paint Brush + Roller Cleaning Tool // game changer in cleaning out your paint brushes and rollers.
Spray Paint Handle // For anyone that spray paints frequently [me] this is VERY useful! Simply clamp it on your spray paint can and it will save your trigger finger from aching.
Power Tools
Jig Saw // while not ideal for perfect cuts, it’s one of the easiest hand tools to use. [DIY Wood Fiber Art]
Drill // an essential beginner DIY tool
Drill Bit Set // goes hand-in-hand with the drill
Miter Saw // As a beginner, this is one I became comfortable with using first and one I use most often.
Orbital Sander // don’t forget the sand paper! 60, 80, 120, 220, and 400
Brad Nailer // my absolute favorite tool! This is cordless, so no need to drag around an air compressor.
General DIY Tools
Caulk Gun // the least favorite part of DIY but makes all the difference in the end result.
Safety Glasses // another essential item.
Hammer // pretty basic, but if your beginner DIY’er isn’t ready for a brad nailer, they’ll need one of these.
Wood Glue // best glue for wood working projects.
Stapler // great for crafters
Saw Horses // sometimes you need an extra pair of hands. These are it.
Stud Finder // See also [How to Hang a Shelf for Dummies]
Speed Square // super handy tool to have and one I used for this Geometric Wall
Clamps // the more the merrier
Kreg Pocket Hole Jig // very handy jig for securing wood pieces together
Did I forget anything? Let me know what your favorite DIY tool is!
