Groundhog Day

Sharing is caring!

Happy Groundhog Day! Today, we celebrate the day that the groundhog tells us all what the weather will be like for the rest of the winter.

It’s funny to think that an animal that hibernates for most of the year is responsible for predicting the weather. But, the groundhog has been doing this for centuries now, and it’s become a beloved holiday for many.

Having grown up in the northeast, we of course watch for Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania hoping that good ol’ Phil doesn’t see his shadow so that we have an early spring.

Today, people all over the world are gathering to watch their local groundhogs emerge from their burrows. Some towns even have their own groundhog mascots that they dress up in festive hats and scarves to make the event even more fun.

Of course, there are some skeptics who don’t believe in the accuracy of the groundhog’s prediction. But, one thing is certain: the groundhog always makes for some great photo ops and entertaining stories.

So get out there and celebrate Groundhog Day! Whether you believe in the power of the groundhog or not, it’s always a fun day to get together with friends and family and enjoy the winter weather (or lack thereof).
