How to Teach Your Kids About Fire Safety with First Alert

Sharing is caring!

Part of being a parent is educating our kids and keeping them safe. My oldest has fire drills in school, but until recently we didn’t have a plan in place at home. We decided to upgrade our home with First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Alarms with Voice Location Technology and open up the discussion of fire safety and preparedness with our kids.

We went with the First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Alarms with Voice Location Technology because of its many benefits and cost saving feature.

There are studies showing that voice and location technology has a better chance of waking sleeping children. Both of our kids sleep with white noise on, so this added benefit was a huge win for us. Studies have shown that only 53% of kids wake to the standard alarm versus 86-91% of children waking to maternal voice alarms.

The First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Alarms with Voice Location Technology smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is super easy to install (and should be installed in every bedroom of the house and on every level) and comes equipped with a 10 year battery life. No more costly battery replacements! This alarm also won’t chirp annoyingly in the middle of the night either. ??

How to Teach Your Kids About Fire Safety with First Alert

We opened up the discussion of fire safety with our 5 and 3 year old, creating a plan of action in the event of an emergency. My main goal was to educated my kids without potentially scaring them.

A few ways to talk to your kids is through reading age appropriate books, coloring activities and fun but educational games. I printed off a few free coloring worksheets explaining “STOP, DROP, and ROLL” as they colored. We also have several books pertaining to fire engines, fire fighters, etc. These are great conversation starters for your kids as well.

Be sure to have a talk with your kids sooner rather than later. Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly so your children can become familiar with the sound and create a plan of action in the event there is an emergency.
