HUSBAND, THERE’S SOMETHING I WANT TO TELL YOU

Dear Husband,

There’s something I want to tell you, that I should probably say more often.

I know things aren’t the same. Our relationship has changed quite a bit since the beginning.

We knew marriage would be hard AF and that the first few years are the most challenging. Especially if you add kids in right away like we did.

Often one or both of us will start feeling neglected. The kids and work demand so much of our souls that by the end of the day when its our time we have nothing left. I no longer wish to be touched as I’ve had a child in my personal space for hours. I no longer wish to speak because I’ve spoken my limit of vocabulary throughout the day.

But I get it. I see you. I appreciate you.

I appreciate the long hours you put in at work while I may resent you for it slightly. I appreciate the effort you put out when you call/text during the day. The little things remind me that you love me and let me know I’m on your mind.

I appreciate the effort you put into us. There are nights I know you wish to just unwind in front of your Xbox, but you put your controller aside to spend time with me. Sometimes you even let me pick the show/movie. You may fall asleep 10 minutes in, but there’s still comfort in knowing you’re by my side.

You’re by my side through it all. You were there to hold me up after our first failed attempt at pregnancy. You were there when I struggled not once, but twice with postpartum depression. You’ve been there for my trials but also my triumphs as I set out to start something I knew very little about. You cheered me on and encouraged me to continue with my passion even though it took time away from us (and still does).

But, I want you to know this.

I see it all. I know we’ve been in a challenging stage, but I recognize your effort and appreciate the time you put into us and our family. I love our ~~boring~~ life we’ve built together. I love you through our financial struggles and trying stages the children go through.

So while I may not say it enough, I love being married AF to you and look forward to the next challenges and seasons of life with you.
