Recently I shared our daughter’s bedroom update. If you have kids, then you know what one gets the other wants too. To be honest, I was excited to update my son’s bedroom anyway! He’s completely in love with superheroes so I decided to put a modern spin on it.
When I approached my husband on updating our son’s room, he made a comment about doing bedroom renovations once a year. While dramatic, he had a point. I wanted to give our son a bedroom he loved, but also one that could grow with him and not need to be re-done completely as his interests changed. Also, if I’m being completely honest, we wanted to upgrade his bed so that it was more comfortable for us to lay in when he was scared or sick at night.
With this idea in mind, we decided to upgrade his bed to a larger size and keep most of the décor neutral. You’ll notice that most of the room is done in a monochrome color palette with pops of color and inexpensive superhero touches. We decided to check out Mattress Firm to upgrade his mattress since they’ve been our go-to for every mattress in our home! (I bought my very first mattress right out of college from here!) There’s something to be said about being able to lay on a mattress and test it out before bringing it home. We went to check out the tulo mattresses and test their firmness. Ultimately, we ended up choosing the from Mattress Firm. This mattress has the perfect amount of softness and works well for side-sleepers or those that switch positions throughout the night. The tulo soft features different layers, of which provide a regulated temperate and minimizes disruptive motion AKA our restless son.
If you’ve been considering an upgrade now is the time to check out Mattress Firm’s going on now. You can score a king mattress for the price of a queen or a queen for the price of a twin.
Modern Superhero Bedroom
I couldn’t be more pleased with the way his superhero bedroom turned out!
My husband made this pallet style headboard and platform base to rest the mattress on. The bedside table we already owned and fits perfectly with the modern look I was going for.
The black and white lightning bolt lamp was a clearance find and one that my son absolutely loves! It makes him think of Flash! My favorite part of the décor is probably the watercolor superhero prints above his new bed.
I found them on Etsy and repurposed some old frames from our bedroom. Simple black hooks now display his superhero costumes for all his crime-fighting adventures.
We are all in love with the overall transformation of his room. It’s quickly become our favorite room to hang out in as a family, reading and cuddling in bed. Special thank you to for providing our son with a comfortable mattress and a great night’s sleep!
