This DIY Wood Lantern requires no power towels and is really simple to make with basic supplies from your craft store.

I’ve dedicated this week to getting my front porch ready for fall. So far we’ve DIY’d a grapevine wreath and today we’re going to attempt to put together a wood lantern.
I’ve had my eye on this lantern from Pottery Barn, but the price tag has held me back. I thought I’d try to DIY my own version without power tools as an additional challenge. 😉

No Power Tools DIY Wood Lantern
Supplies Used for this Project
- (3) wood plaques
- (4) pine craft wood packs
- 6″ floral craft ring
- stain
- super glue
- wood glue
- sanding block

Tip: stain all your pieces prior to getting started. I did not do this, but I think it would be really helpful. Varathane’s Less Mess Wood Stain is an all in one solution for staining smaller projects and touch-ups. The attached applicator eliminates the need for staining pads or brushes.
Step One: Glue the Base
For the base we are going to use two of the wood plaque, gluing the bottoms together. For this I used wood glue, but you could certainly use super glue as well.
If using wood glue, clamp your two pieces together to dry. If you don’t have clamps, add a heavy weight like a book to dry.
Step Two: Wood Fill Seams
This step is completely optional, but fill the seam between the two wood plaques with a stainable wood filler to create a seamless look. Once dry, sand smooth.
Step Three: Glue Side Supports
For the sides, glue two pieces of the pine craft wood together creating an L shape. Add some painters tape across the seam to dry if using wood glue. Again, super glue would work here as well.
Next you’ll glue your L shaped side supports to the base, lining up with the outer edge.
Once all the supports are attached, add the remaining wood plaque upside down with super glue.
Step Four: Create the Handle
For the handle, cut the floral ring in half and glue the pieces together to create a thicker look.
Then glue the handle to the top of the lantern with super glue.
Add a flameless candle and enjoy your high-end looking lantern!

It really is that easy!! I’m so excited that I was able to conquer the challenge of making this DIY wood lantern without the use of power tools!
