Recently I shared on Instagram that we were going to be upgrading our front door. I’m so happy to share that we’ve partnered with Home Depot to redesign our entryway and install an exterior prehung door!
When I initially shared our #CLWLFixerUpper I was blown away at the response over the current double entry doors. They are 100% not my style at all, but so many of you loved them!

Not only was the style not my cup of tea, but they just didn’t feel safe. We knew one of the many projects we’d tackle would be updating the entryway and including a smart keyless entry system with WiFi capabilities.
Design Plans to Install an Exterior Prehung Door
Home Depot has quite literally been our home away from home since purchasing our fixer upper. We just love the selection along with the friendly + helpful staff and prices!
If you’re not familiar with exterior door installation, Home Depot provides this service along with a free in-store consultation. They can send someone to your home to take measurements and place you in contact with a local licensed company for installation.
Once our measurements were taken we had a better idea of doors available to us.
One of my main goals was safety. My husband had his keys stolen not that long ago which was extremely nerve-wracking! All they would have to do is follow him home and have access to our house.
With safety in mind, we researched the best options for a smart keyless entry system.

Schlage Connect Smart Door Lock with Alarm
The Schlage Connect pairs with many virtual assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Google Assistant (with a smart home hub) allowing you to control your lock from anywhere.
This smart lock features a built-in alarm technology that will alert you of any activity, tampering, and forced entry.
Another key feature is Schlage’s fingerprint-resistant touchscreen which differs from other raised button keypads and ensures wear patterns will not be detectable.
We will be able to each have separate codes programmed along with our babysitter (up to 30 total codes can be saved!).
The Design Plans
The goal: The overall goal for our entryway space is to be welcoming with the same modern farmhouse feel we have throughout the inside of our home.
The Exterior Door: The outside of our house is mostly all white so we wanted to create a statement with rich warm tones for the door. Another important factor was light.
The backside of our house is full of large windows and sliding doors creating tons of natural light during part of the day. We wanted to continue that feeling in the front of our house and opted to select a door with large lite panels.

Krosswood Doors in Chestnut Stain
Home Depot has such a large selection of pre-hung exterior doors it was almost too hard to choose. But once I narrowed down the finish and glass option we fell in love with the Krosswood Doors Rustic Knotty Alder Wood Clear Half-Lite Red Chestnut Stain.

Hardware: We had swapped out all the interior door knobs for black ones and want to keep that same design for the exterior door. The Schlage Connect comes in different finishes such as Aged Bronze (shown), Matte Black and Satin Nickel.
Greenery: I cannot keep a living plant for more than a week. Tall black planters will be filled with faux greenery along with every day wreaths on the double doors.
Textiles: I love the look of layered rugs and will keep the black and white buffalo check rug with a coir mat.
Stay tuned for the final reveal over on The Home Depot’s blog and our Instagram Stories! Can’t wait to share it all with you!
