Three years ago I walked down the non-existent aisle to marry my best friend in front of just our closest family and friends. We knew we wanted to get married and have a family, but the order didn’t matter nor did a big fancy party. We just wanted the happily ever after. This way may not be for everyone, but this is our story.

It was only the week before did we really decided we were going to get married before I went back to work from maternity leave. We called our parents and asked if they could make it. A week’s notice to fly in to NJ from Florida and South America. That was enough time, right? We called the county courthouse to find an open appointment and find out what we needed to apply for a marriage license. We also asked how many people could witness our marriage. The answer didn’t make me too thrilled.
We were extremely limited, so we decided to explore other options. Other options being to have it in the backyard of our friend’s house we lovingly nicknamed “The Estate”. In the end, our venue was our friend’s parent’s beautiful backyard underneath the gazebo.
We found our officiator (a good friend’s soon to be father-in-law), decorations from past bridal showers, a bridal dress ordered online, an extremely pricey bouquet of flowers for me to carry, and contacted all the guests we wanted to join us on our special day…all in a week.
We may not have a ton of fancy pictures to look back on or a large catered venue with memories of dancing all night long, but we were surrounded by people that love us and supported our decision and for that we are eternally grateful.

Three years ago, I married my best friend. The one who drives me crazy and the one I drive crazier. The one who loves us harder than any man could. To say it’s been an easy 3 years would be a lie. We’ve been through countless arguments, multiple job changes, buying/renovating/selling a house, moving 1,000 miles away from the home we grew up in and made 2 beautiful babies with the worst newborn colic imaginable. There is still so much more to come and as long as he’s by my side I know we’ll get through it.

Happy Anniversary <3

Happy Anniversary! That really is what's most important about a wedding anyway, having those you love there to support you.

Happy anniversary! You looked absolutely beautiful. I always look back and realize that it was never the size of the wedding that mattered, only the man I was marrying:)
