This post outlines how to turn your basic plastic outdoor playhouse makeover from drab to farmhouse fabulous with some paint and a few accessories!

We bought our home 6 months ago and have tackled so many indoor DIY projects. With the weather warmer now, we started to move to outdoor projects, like painting our kid’s plastic outdoor playhouse.

Materials Needed:
- Wagner FLEXiO 3000 Paint Sprayer
- Pressure Washer
- Sanding Block
- Wagner Spray Tent
- Oil based Primer
- Exterior Pant
Step One: Power Wash
Our plastic playhouse is stored outdoors and needed to be cleaned thoroughly. We decided to take all the pieces apart to clean, but also to be able to paint easier too.
We used our pressure washer to get off all the dirt and mold that had accumulated over the winter.

Step Two: Sand
Once all the pieces are dry, take a sanding block and give it a quick rough sand to remove any of the gloss. This will allow the primer and paint to adhere better. Dust off with a microfiber cloth.
Step Three: Apply Primer
Apply your oil-based primer using the Wagner FLEXiO 3000 Paint Sprayer. I used Kilz Interior|Exterior Primer. This is a very dense primer and will need to be thinned in order to spray.
In order to thin the primer, slowly add 1.5-2 cups of mineral spirits (or water…yes, it will incorporate!) to 1 gal of primer and use a wire whisk to incorporate together.

Step Four: Paint and Seal
It’s time to paint!
Assemble your Wagner FLEXiO 3000 Paint Sprayer and add paint color of your choice. There’s no need to thin this paint.
The colors I used are Valspar Dark Kettle Black for the roof and trim; Valspar Summer Gray (looks very white in the daylight) for the body of the house.

I applied two coats of each color to the house and finished it up with a clear coat to protect against water and weather since this will stay outdoors. I wish I could recommend one, but the one I used I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
The Reveal!

Using the Wagner FLEXiO 3000 Paint Sprayer made this job so much easier. It would’ve taken 2-3 times longer painting in all the grooves of this playhouse.
I also used our sprayer to paint our built-in mudroom area. You can view that post here.
