If you’re wanting to install peel and stick wallpaper and just a beginner, then you’ve come to the right place. I’m answering your questions and providing 5 tips to help get you started.
This post is sponsored by Walmart.
We have about two more weeks left of summer break and I’m giving our homework station a bit of a refresh with peel and stick wallpaper.
I was browsing Walmart’s peel and stick wallpaper selection online and came across this really pretty gold dot wallpaper. If you’re planning a dorm room makeover or just looking to refresh a small space, Walmart has a great selection for you. You’ll find so many home trends at a great price.
For all my wallpaper beginners, I’ve laid out a handful of tips to get you started.
Tip #1: Wall Texture
Most wallpaper descriptions will say it’s not recommended for textured walls.
Is this actually true?
Yes and no. I say it depends on the pattern of the wallpaper and preference.
My biggest tip for applying peel and stick wallpaper on textured walls is to use a dry rag to smooth while applying. This will help the paper adhere in all the grooves versus just using a smoothing tool.
Tip #2: Consider the Pattern
If you’re just starting out and have never applied peel and stick wallpaper before then consider the pattern you choose. Something that is not symmetrical will be more forgiving.
Tip #3: Background Color
I may have found this out the hard way, but consider the existing wall color before installation. If your wallpaper design has a white or light background, the wall color or design will be slightly visible.
It’s my recommendation that you start with a clean, white wall before installing.
**You will need to allow time for the paint to fully cure before wallpaper installation.
Tip #4: Placement
Ninety-nine percent of the time walls and ceilings are not straight. Use a laser level or draw a level line on the wall to help guide you through the install process.
Some wallpaper patterns are best installed from the middle of the wall outwards in order to end the pattern evenly on both sides. For random, unsymmetrical designs you can start at one side and work across.
Tip #5: Go Slow!
Don’t rush the process. Getting your first strip aligned is the hardest part and sets the bar for the rest of the project.
Go slow; do not pull or stretch the wallpaper. Smooth air bubbles from the middle outwards.

Looks great! I love it and it doesn’t sound too difficult of a project. I’m wondering though, How long will the paper stay on wall? Is it resistant to humidity?

Thank you! It is steam and moisture resistant so can be used in kitchens and bathrooms.
