A Pegboard Toy Storage Wall That Actually Keeps My Son’s Room Organized
My son’s bedroom was turning into a toy explosion—NERF guns piled in corners, darts everywhere, and nowhere obvious to put things back. I wanted a solution that made cleanup easy, kept his favorite toys accessible, and still looked intentional (because yes, kids’ rooms can be functional and cute). This pegboard toy storage wall ended up being the perfect answer.

Why I Chose a Pegboard for Toy Storage
Pegboards are one of those underrated organization tools that work just as well in a garage as they do in a kid’s bedroom. What sold me was:
- Everything is visible (no more digging through bins)
- Easy for kids to use independently
- Customizable as interests change
- Keeps toys off the floor
For a kid who loves NERF battles, trucks, dinosaurs, and action figures, this setup just made sense.
The Setup: How We Organized the Wall
Pegboard for NERF Guns & Darts
The pegboard is the star of the show. We used hooks to hang NERF guns in a way that’s easy for my son to grab—and just as easy to put back when he’s done. Darts are stored right on the board too in baskets, which has drastically reduced the amount of random foam pieces showing up around the house.
This alone made cleanup faster and way less frustrating.

Two Display Shelves for Favorite Toys
Below the pegboard, we installed two simple shelves to display his most-loved toys—things like:
- Trucks
- Dinosaurs
- Action figures
Giving these toys a “home” not only keeps them organized but also makes the room feel more personal. It’s functional and feels like décor, which is always a win.

HDX 6.5 Quart Tough Totes for Miscellaneous Toys
For the toys that don’t need to be on display, we added stacked HDX 6.5 quart tough totes underneath the shelves. These are perfect for:
- Small parts
- Random toys
- Anything that doesn’t fit neatly elsewhere
They’re durable, easy to stack, and small enough that my son can pull them out and put them back on his own.
Designed for Real Life (and Real Kids)
The biggest goal with this project was making cleanup realistic. If a system is too complicated, kids won’t use it—period. This setup works because:
- Toys are easy to reach
- Cleanup doesn’t require opening 10 bins
- Everything has a clear place to go
And when kids know where things belong, they’re far more likely to put them away.

Pair This With a Rolling Toy Cart
This wall system works perfectly alongside our DIY Rolling Toy Cart, which we use for toys that move from room to room or for quick cleanups. If you’re dealing with overflow toys or need flexible storage, I highly recommend pairing the two.

Together, these two storage solutions have made my son’s room easier to maintain—and honestly, way more enjoyable for both of us.
Final Thoughts
This pegboard toy storage wall has been one of the most practical upgrades we’ve made in my son’s bedroom. It keeps his toys organized and actually stays tidy longer than anything we’ve tried before.
If you’re looking for kids room organization ideas, NERF gun storage, or toy storage solutions that actually work, this is one project I’d 100% recommend.
