BEATING THE POST VACATION BLUES

Sharing is caring!

How to Beat the Post Vacation Blues, family travel, family trip, coming back from vacation

We are 3 days home from vacation and now both back to work. The post vacation blues are here in full force. This is the part I despise the most about going away. The empty feeling in the pit of my stomach as I head back to work along with the overwhelming stress of getting the house back to order and emptying my overflowing Inbox at work. Reality is harsh. So are the heart-wrenching comments our oldest dropped on us as we left for work this Monday morning (as if Mondays are bad enough). She had been struggling with a low-grade fever since we’ve been home resulting in some pretty terrible sleep for her and I last night; the night before returning to work. Pair this along with night potty training and we were pretty doomed from the start. As I was getting ready she came in practically sobbing. I held her in my arms as she sputtered the words “I want you mama. I don’t want you to go work.” The knot tightened in my stomach. I’ve mentioned several times before that I’m not cut out to be a SAHM. Yet while I know this, the pain of leaving my kids when they’ve gotten so used to having me around still hurts.

This time I’m taking control in trying to beat these post vacation blues.

1.) Plan the next trip – We may not have much time off left from work, but even the smallest family trip will give us something to look forward to. So when I have some free time and feel the depression set in I’ll be scouring Groupon & Living Social getaway deals.

2.) Clean out the house. – I already started this and it felt so good! Isabella’s birthday took place while on vacation so we came back with some extra toys. I spent one morning this past weekend purging old toys to make room for the new ones! The freedom and extra space feels amazing.

3.) Frame our favorite shots. – One way to keep the vacation alive is to grab one of our favorite photos from the trip and blow it up for the wall! Shutterfly usually has some great deals, plus free photo prints using the app.

4.) Relax. – Wait. Didn’t we just do that?! I’m currently feeling the pressure of organizing the house, catching up from work, along with preparing Isabella for the upcoming school year. Pushing all those stressors aside, I will be relaxing and just hanging with the kids doing something fun.
