How to Revive Your Outdoor Fire Pit with Spray Paint
It is important to note that if your fire pit is being eaten away by rust and has holes you will not be able to restore it at this point.
If you only have surface rust than you are free to proceed!
Materials:
- dish soap
- heavy duty scrubbing sponge
- hose
- sandpaper
- tack cloth
- Krylon High Heat Max spray paint

Step 1 – Clean the Firepit
Clean the fire pit well with dish soap and water. Wet the entire surface and spray on Dawn PowerWash. Using an abrasive sponge start scrubbing all the dirt and rust. Rinse completely and allow to dry.

Step 2 – Sand the Surface
If you’re looking for a professionally smooth finish you will need to sand down the surface prior to painting. A 220 grit sandpaper will get the job done. Once you’re satisfied with the finish, wipe off excess dust with a tack cloth.
Step 3 – Spray Paint
You will need a special spray paint that is made for surfaces that come in contact with fire and excessively high heat.

Spray your fire pit with Krylon High Heat Max [available in Black and Aluminum] in light coats. You will need at least 2 coats.

When putting out your fire, be sure to let it die out slowly and not saturate it with water. The sudden drop in temperature will crack your finish.
Use a fire pit cover when not in use and you’ll have a great looking pit for years to come.
