Saving Money During the Holidays

Sharing is caring!

Christmas is my favorite time of year! I love how holiday decor transforms my home into such a cozy and festive space. I almost want to leave it up year round! The best part of the holidays for me now is making new family memories with my kids. But it’s no secret that the holidays can get pretty pricey. The endless gifts and holiday parties on top of everyday expenses can certainly be a stress factor. That’s why I’ve learned to shop in bulk and save on toys, electronics, party essentials and so much more at BJ’s Wholesale Club.

We don’t have a ton of storage space in our home so I’ve learned to make it work for us. I thought I would share the top items to buy this holiday season and how to store them without a ton of space.

Top Items to Buy from BJ’s During the Holidays

BJs Wholesale Club - Fresh Products

  • Meats – Whether you’re hosting Christmas dinner or serving appetizers for a large crowd its much more cost effective to buy a large quantity. BJ’s offers the highest quality and freshest meats. Just ask the butcher if you have any special cuts or requests. They’re always happy to help!
  • Paper Products – The holidays means extra guests which means a lot more messes, bathroom runs, and dishes. Stock up on toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and paper plates for easier cleanup.

BJs Wholesale Club - Toys and Electronics

  • Toys – Yes! Toys! BJ’s has the best prices on some of the hottest toys of the season! Check out their Top 10 Toys and save! If you’re a Perks Program Member you can earn up to an additional 10% back on purchases including toys and electronics.
  • Gas – If you don’t travel during the holiday season…lucky you! But the majority of people do a ton of driving between stores and visiting family. From 11/1-1/1/17, members can save 5¢ per gallon after their BJ’s shopping trip.

BJs Wholesale Club - Health and Beauty Items

  • Health & Beauty – It’s smart to always stock up on soap, shampoo, and toothpaste, but essential when you have out of town guests. No sense having guests carry extra weight or check bags with liquids or gels when you have plenty to offer!
  • Beverages – Holiday parties equals thirsty guests! BJ’s offers cases of water, soda, juices and adult beverages in the liquor store.

How to Store Bulk Items with Limited Space

Our home has small closets and limited cabinet space in the kitchen. When buying in bulk, large boxes will usually contain several packs of the item or come individually wrapped (like toilet paper and paper towels). Remove everything from their case before storing. Break open the case of toilet paper and store some under each bathroom cabinet and in linen closets. Same goes for toiletries. We have two full bathrooms in our house, so you’ll find bottles of shampoo and body wash under the guest/kids sink, the master bathroom sink, and in each bathroom’s linen closet.

Unless you have a large family, you most likely won’t be cooking/preparing an entire package of meat. Break out individual meal portions and store in freezer safe storage bags.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is offering a FREE 3-month membership to new members! So now is your chance to stock up and save during the holidays and see if this works for your family as well! Print your voucher or show in-store on your smart phone at Member Services!

Happy Saving!
