SPRING CLEANING: DECLUTTERING THE PLAYROOM

Sharing is caring!

Spring is here and you know what that means….time to declutter, organize and clean! Certain areas of our home get hit the worst with clutter. For us, the worst room is the playroom. This room is closest to the front door making it a high traffic area. Between footprints, snack crumbs, coloring, and every day imagination it’s the first room that needs to be tackled during spring cleaning

Toy Purge

In my mind, it’s best to purge and declutter the kids’ playroom when they’re not around. If not, suddenly that one toy they haven’t touched in 6 months is their new favorite and parting with it would be a major crime. Make four piles: trash, donate, storage and keep. If a toy is broken or missing pieces it goes in the trash pile. I’m not searching every room and under beds for a small piece to a puzzle. The idea is to move quickly and efficiently. Donate toys, books, and games that haven’t been touched in 3-6 months. From your keep pile, take half and put away in storage for a month. This will help keep the kids more interested in what they already have instead of buying new toys.

Toy Storage

Cube organizers are my absolute favorite. We have one in different sizes in the kids’ rooms and playroom. We aim to organize cars, blocks, figurines, magnetic tiles, etc. This seems to be the easiest way for my kids to help clean up. They each grab a bin and start cleaning up the floor.

Floor & Surface Cleaning

Once you can finally see the floor, you can vacuum, mop and dust. The kids can definitely help with this! Mine love grabbing disinfectant wipes and wiping everything down. Area rugs are vacuumed before being rolled up to mop the floor. Here’s where the most important tool in my spring cleaning arsenal comes in. The Libman Company Tornado mop! The name couldn’t be more fitting for some of the disasters it tackles in the playroom. We have hardwood floors in our home, but this mop works well on any surface. It has a larger mop head to cover 50% more surface area in order to minimize clean up time. The microfiber GRIPSTRIPS™ lift up to 20% more dirt, crayon marks, and fingerpaint. Best part is that the mop head can be removed and thrown in the washer up to 50 times. (If you sign up for The Libman Company newsletter, you’ll receive a $3-off coupon.)
