TEACHING TODDLERS HOW TO BLOW THEIR NOSE

Teach your toddlers how to blow their nose before the cold season arrives with these three fun tricks!

The holidays are over and I feel like we may have barely survived. Even though I started shopping early, there seemed to be a never ending checklist of things to do. My husband works extra hours during holidays so it was up to me to tackle the list alone. Now that I can breathe a sigh of relief for our successful holiday, I wonder how we actually made it through. The colds and sicknesses have been plentiful this season and I may have self-diagnosed myself thanks to Dr. Google. While I thought my oldest was over her cold it came back full-force, leaving her miserable and confused as to why her nose wasn’t working and she couldn’t sniff through one side.

After countless attempts of getting her to blow her nose, I realized that she just didn’t know how to blow out. If this sounds like your toddler, then these tips for teaching them how to blow their nose are for you. Be sure to grab a large pack of Kleenex tissues from Walmart before getting started because it does take plenty of practice. How to Blow Their Nose

1.  Birthday Candles

We made a game of it by grabbing a treat (soft cookie or cupcake will work) and sticking a lit birthday candle in it. Show them how to hold one side of their nose and try to blow out the candle with the other side.

2. Bathtub Bubbles

While they’re in the bathtub, instead of blowing bubbles with their mouths, have them try to blow out using only their noses.

3. Mirror Practice

Some of the issue for toddlers, is not realizing what happens when they blow their noses. Have them look in the mirror, hold one nostril closed, and blow out with the other side. They should then see mucus coming out which should be wiped with their Kleenex.
