Do your kids like being involved in the kitchen? Do they like being creative and working independently? The Young Chefs’ Club box is the best subscription box for promoting kids independence and important life skills.

From a very young age I’ve encouraged my kids to be independent. Not only does it give them a feeling of accomplishment, but also prepares them for real life.

At first it may seem difficult because as adults we know the task can be completed much faster if we do it ourselves. Independence isn’t taught overnight; it requires a fair amount of patience, time, and support.

The Kids Club for Promoting Independence

America’s Test Kitchen Kids came out with a brand-new subscription box for kids ages 5+ that not only encourages independence but includes so many different types of activities. We received a Young Chefs’ Club box to test out for ourselves. Each monthly box is themed and this months was all about tacos!

In the taco themed box, we received multiple kid tested and approved recipes + spice packet, shopping list, instructions for an experiment using an avocado, plus a fun Taco Truck activity.

My kids are 6 and 4 and were able to do most of these activities with minimal supervision. Of course, the cooking aspect would be under adult supervision! I was incredibly impressed with the variety of activities included and the STEAM based experiment.

The Experiment: We took an avocado and cut it in half. One half went into a bowl with water and lemon juice while the other remained face up at room temperature. Later in the day we went back and examined the difference! My kids were super into this experiment and the explanation behind why one looked different than the other.

Not everything needs to be done at once. We were able to work at the kids’ pace whenever we needed a rainy-day activity, or I was desperate for them to turn off the TV. Being so limited on time myself, I really appreciate subscription boxes like this because they have everything mapped out for you. There’s no need to research your own education, STEAM activity. Ingredients for the recipes are included in a handy shopping list card.

I would highly recommend the Young Chefs’ Club box for any child who loves getting mail, creating (in the kitchen and arts/crafts) and can work independently or with siblings. And mamas – you also get your own login to access a digital library of family-friendly recipes, hands-on activities, videos and other educational resources!
