One goal for the new year is to learn more about the products we’re using in our home. Slowly, but surely, I’m swapping out chemical driven items for “cleaner” ones.
Recently I polled my Instagram Story viewers asking for recommendations on your favorite under-eye concealers. Honestly, I tend to reach for more affordable options without thinking about their ingredients. One of you reminded me that our skin is our body’s largest organ and what we put on it can enter our body causing damage over time.
With that in mind, I decided to research your top 5 recommended under-eye concealers on the EWG (Environmental Working Group) website.

What is the EWG?
The EWG is probably your best resource available for finding the most non-toxic consumer products to use. They are a non-profit organization that tests everything from cosmetics, children’s products, and sunscreen to the food and water that we buy.
Unfortunately the FDA standards allow cancer-causing ingredients such as parabens, phalates, formaldehyde, lead and more to be used in the products we purchase for our families.
The EWG has done the research and has a handy tool we can use while we’re out shopping. You can download the EWG Healthy Living app on your phone to scan barcodes + perform searches on over 70,000+ beauty/skin products and 80,000 foods.
Clean v. Irritants
Most “clean” beauty brands have removed common chemicals like parabens and sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). These two are common irritants, but that’s not to say that they’ve removed all ingredients known to cause irritation.
You’ll notice on the EWG findings that there are separate ratings for cancer concern and allergy concern. If you have sensitive skin you would want to focus on finding products that stay in the green for both of these areas.
