Traveling with Babies & Toddlers + Printable Checklist

Sharing is caring!

The summer season is here and you’re most likely going to be doing some traveling. I’ve done several reviews of products that are perfect for traveling and decided to round them up in one convenient post. Be sure to print off the checklist below to use while packing!

A complete list of must haves for traveling with babies and toddlers

Feeding

Whether you’re going by airplane or car, the Nuby Snack & Sip cup is a convenient cup for your little ones. The top portion holds their snack, while the bottom contains their drink. Be sure to use a Nuby Keepeez Cup strap to keep your little ones from tossing their cup on the floor. Another great item we love is Choomee pouches and pouch toppers. The control valve in the pouch topper allows for mess-free feeding of fruit/veggie pouches. These are a great option for your little ones during take-off and landing on the airplane to help with ear pressure. The most helpful thing I can recommend during traveling is to have a large variety of healthy snacks on hand. (i.e. freeze dried fruit, nuts, Gerber Lil’ Beanies, fruit/veggie pouches) If you’re traveling with a baby you’ll want to bring plenty of formula/breastmilk and bottles for the length of the trip. We love the TwistShake bottle because it comes with a container to hold formula powder (or snacks) and nestles inside the bottle until you’re ready to prepare. Use code crazylifewithlittles20 to save 20% with TwistShake. If you’re nursing, I love the . It can be worn as a scarf when not in use and also doubles as a highchair cover when dining out.

Clothing

Always bring a change of clothes when traveling with babies and small children! They are messy little people and it never fails that a spill or accident will occur. Diapers are obvious if your little one is still in them. I like to bring a light sweater or jacket as well.

Sleeping

For longer trips your little ones will most likely take naps (at least you hope so). Be sure to pack their favorite sleeping items like blankets or sleepers. My guy loves his ZipadeeZip and will fall right to sleep when he’s in it. The Dockatot is a great option for travel as well. The Deluxe will fit in your bed for babies and the Grand works great in a King size bed or on the floor next to you. It is super cushiony! Dockatots are extremely flexible and can be folded up and stored in a vacuum space saver bag to fit in your luggage.

Activities

Keeping your little ones occupied may be difficult for longer travel times, but I think the key to this is saving NEW items for travel. Grab some color packets from the Target dollar spot, Crayola ColorWonder coloring books and markers, a travel size magnetic doodle pad, new books, an iPad or KindleFire for watching movies and playing games, and gel window clings to keep little fingers occupied in a window seat on the airplane.

Transporting

Now how do you transport all this?! It may seem like I mentioned alot, but I don’t like to travel large. Most of these items I mentioned above fit perfectly in my Motherload Bags and into my Newlie diaper bag. Motherload bags are color coordinated and great for organizing clean/dirty clothing, diaper changing, feeding essentials, and small toys. All of these bags slid perfectly into my diaper bag along with drink cups. I will have a demonstrative video posted soon to link here.

I have a 1 year old and 3 year old so I fully take advantage of my Ergo and stroller. If you’re flying you can check baggage, pop the diaper bag in the storage area of the stroller with the toddler and have hands-free with baby in the Ergo. Most airports do not make you remove your baby from the carrier during security check.

Be sure to print this Travel Checklist off for when you’re ready to travel! As much anxiety as I’ve had thinking about traveling with my little ones, it really isn’t that bad. Keep plenty of snacks and activities on-hand and you’ll do just fine!

Great list! I recently discovered Melissa & Doug water wow coloring books - they're so great for travel! A refillable water pen uncovers the colors on the pages.

I've got a 4 hour car ride tomorrow with my 10 month old, and we'll be going by plane to Florida next month. These are great ideas! I love the cups that hold the drink and the snack, so convenient.
