Boho Chic Vertical Shiplap Accent Wall

Sharing is caring!

A couple weeks ago you watched us give our daughter’s bedroom a boho chic makeover complete with vertical shiplap from The Home Depot over on Instagram Stories. We’re finally here to reveal the finished space!

Before we get to all the details, let’s remind ourselves what we started with. A basic, white-walled room with zero personality.

I’ve wanted to install vertical shiplap in our home for a while and this seemed like the perfect space to incorporate it in. The Home Depot has several easy to install shiplap options, but because we wanted to paint them with the color our daughter picked out, we went with the primed 5 ¼” Ship Lap Board

These boards come 12’ long, great quality and durable, with other length options available. We cut them down to 6’ for our vertical accent wall and let them sit indoors for a few days to acclimate to temperature.

To get started on this project we gathered up all the materials needed. The Home Depot is always a great place to start to any project.

Tools Used:

  • Tape measure
  • Crow bar
  • Stud finder
  • Drill
  • Nail gun
  • Painting supplies (paint sprayer)
  • Kreg pocket hole jig
  • Jigsaw

Using actual shiplap boards made this an extremely beginner friendly project. Another great tip is if you don’t have a lot of power tools or the ones we used above, you can still complete this project with Home Depot’s Tool Rental! They have everything from outdoor tools to drills, nailers and paint sprayers.

The shiplap went up rather quickly and once the nail holes were filled with a little bit of caulk, I used a sprayer to paint the boards with Behr Marquee in the color On Location. Using a paint sprayer isn’t essential, but it will provide the quickest, smoothest finish.

To install the picture ledge above the 6’ shiplap, my husband located the studs in the wall. Pocket holes were made in the 1x4x12 board and screwed directly into the studs. The color stain used is Golden Oak.

While I do love creating a beautiful accent wall, the decorating may be my favorite part. Did you know that homedepot.com has an amazing variety of home decor and furniture?! We refreshed our master bedroom with Home Depot decor. Everything is quality and extremely affordable.

We upgraded her bed from chipped crib headboard to this beautiful white vintage industrial bed and added a tufted throw to add texture.

Now that she’s getting older and having homework nightly, we ordered her this modern desk with drawer storage. I always find her sitting her now, drawing or working.

This nightstand on the opposite of her bed matches perfectly to the desk. I hung a white sconce with the puck light hack so she can read at night.

This pouf and area rug pull the whole look together and complete our daughter’s boho chic room makeover. The rug is so soft and one of the first things she mentioned when we revealed this space to her!

This project came to life so quick thanks to The Home Depot and all the supplies, tools and decor they offer!

Here’s a peak at my original mood board. The result far exceeded my initial vision!
