Growing up in the northeast, I’ve experienced some harsh winters and even now in Florida we’re experiencing some extremely unusual low temperatures. My skin has been feeling the shock and all the changes, so I’m going to share a few simple skincare survival tips every mom needs during the winter.

Winter Skincare Survival Tips for Moms

Once winter rolls around, I tend to experience dryer skin, chapped lips and itchiness. Whenever there is an extreme change in temperature you should anticipate refreshing your skin and changing your routine a bit. Dr. Alicia Barba, a Dove Dermatologist, has some great tips on how to update your winter skincare routine that will have you quickly on your way to softer, healthier skin.

Don’t over exfoliate.

During the cooler months, it’s important to lock in the moisture and not strip your skin of hydration. Over exfoliating can remove essential oils and lead to breakouts. It’s important to gently exfoliate and add moisture back in with a good moisturizer.

Care for Underarms

One of the places that tend to get itchy during cool, dry months is your underarms. This is a sensitive area and one that I shave daily so it takes a hit. Protect your underarms with Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. I love how light, fresh, yet effective is with 48 hours of protection and it’s special formulation with moisturizers to eliminate irritation.

Another way to protect underarms and arms in general is to avoid harsh, itchy sweaters directly against your skin. Wearing a camisole under your sweaters is a great way to protect your skin and provide an additional layer of warmth.

Protect those Puckers

Chapped, peeling lips are the WORST. I will usually, always have a lip balm handy in my purse and desk at work. When in a bind, it doubles as a cuticle moisturizer too.

Recharge the Nighttime Routine

Sometimes it’s easier, especially as a tired mom, to just head right to bed without removing makeup and washing your face. Trust me, I’m guilty. But during the winter you should make sure to do this each night to refresh your skin. Take 5 minutes before bed to wash your face, use a retinol cream, and moisturize.

Over exfoliating is very bad. Especially in the winter when the air is more crisp and sharper on your skin. Great info. Love my dove deodorant. I use the same one.
