Halloween is creeping up faster than we can say Boo! We’ve been busy getting Halloween costumes ready and prepping for school parties and gatherings with friends. Up to this point, it’s been all about the kids. But there is also something I love about Halloween, so I’m planning to get in on the fun as well. A couple years ago, I started putting together Boo Baskets for our neighbors, and it continues to be an epic tradition that we look forward to.

What’s a Boo Basket?

It’s a little collection of Halloween tricks and treats that you leave on the doorstep of a neighbor or two. It’s a bit like Secret Santa. The idea is that they will “pay-it-forward” and will, in turn, “Boo” another neighbor. The basket doesn’t have to be an actual basket but usually contains candy, some home decor items and, if you know your neighbors really well you could even include some booze!

Boo baskets are a great way to involve the grownups in some Halloween traditions, and it is a fun way to get to know your neighbors.

After I Boo’d a few neighbors a few years ago, the idea caught on and each neighbor tries to outdo the last by having the coolest boo basket. Hoping not to be outdone this year I searched high and low for Boo Basket ideas so I would be ready when Halloween arrived.
