Today is my husband’s birthday!! We celebrated over the weekend with a red and gold themed family party. He is a soccer fanatic and loves Manchester United so I went with the team colors. I felt that having soccer ball themed decor might make it feel a little too childish so I stuck with the color theme and incorporated the food and Gatorade cake to match. This was really, really simple to throw together and made a big impact on his day!
The cheesecake and cupcakes were from Publix. I bought a frozen Cheesecake Factory plain cheesecake and removed the papers in between the pre-cut slices. Decorated with some fresh strawberries and attempted to cover-up the slices in front by attaching the tops of strawberries with toothpicks.
The balloon letters are from Hobby Lobby. They had a HUGE selection of letters and numbers to choose from. The red tassel banner ,white & gold decorations, and dessert plates are from Target. (from one of my many trips to Target of course) The cake stand I purchased from Target’s Dollar Spot area last year. They usually always have a different color there though.
He received other gifts as well, but I wanted to display something too. Because he plays sports alot and drinks Gatorade more than anything I came up with this Gatorade cake that you most likely have seen done with beer cans. Using a cake board on the bottom I created the first layer and secured with a tiny bit of hot glue. Same goes for each layer above. The hot glue keeps it from sliding around and detaches easily when it comes time to disassemble. I wrapped a couple strands of gold curling ribbon around each layer to dress it up. Super simple.
Displayed in the gift basket was a sports themed gift option. Flip flops (perfect for the beach this summer too), Nike basketball shorts and top, flavored sunflower seeds, and a Dad Fuel tumbler (Save 15% with code ‘littles’ at checkout.).
