The Superhero + Gamer Bedroom of Dreams Reveal

Sharing is caring!

The first project of 2022 is complete! Things may have escalated from closet makeover to full bedroom makeover, but here we are nonetheless.

Back in 2020 I designed my son’s bedroom around my taste – a Sharpie herringbone wall and later a cool color block wall. So as I started taking down closet walls I looped him in and that’s where things went a little crazy.

Let’s take it back to the beginning…I opened up the walls of the reach in closet to maximize the space fully. We decided to use PAX wardrobes for a portion of the space and create a desk nook in the remaining space.

While at IKEA picking up the PAX wardrobes and accessories [what was in stock anyway], my husband decided that it was time to update his bed frame. We opted for the BRIMNES bed for the storage underneath. This is where all the toys and books could be stored.

We purchased one 29″ and one 19″ wardrobe with hanging rods and mesh drawers in the Gray stained ash color along with 2 GRIMO doors and 1 FORSAND door. Once these were installed in place, I color matched the wardrobes and painted the rest of the walls in the nook – Behr Falcon Gray

The left side of the original closet wasn’t removed entirely, but pushed back because of an existing outlet. This outlet was reversed and is now on the inside of the “closet” in order to be used for the desk space. Shelving was built in to the remaining 5.5″ nook using 3/4″ plywood. Two pieces of 3/4″ plywood was glued together to create the desktop and secured to one of the shelves and braces on the back wall and side of the wardrobe.

The coolest feature is probably the last minute decision to add a french cleat wall above the desk. Not only does this add dimension, but its completely functional for mounting a monitor and hanging more storage options. [Stay tuned for a tutorial on this wall!]

The rest of the walls were painted Behr Ice Cave and 2″ batten was added for dimension.
